As a studio project, my class at NSCAD consulted with our client, FoodArc, to conceptualize, design, and produce a mock-up for a board game to be used as a teaching tool to raise awareness about food insecurity in Nova Scotia.
My group ended up producing a card game, where players fill in their daily needs with the cards they are given. The game was designed to make players experience the feeling of not having enough, and create sympathy and eventually action to helping those in our community with fewer resources and access to healthy food.
The final product was a set of 72 cards, 4 boards, and one game instruction card. The Hand You're Dealt was selected among 4 games to be produced and used by FoodArc, and is currently being used in schools.
